Strange Little Girls is a concept album released by singer-songwriter Tori Amos in 2001. The album's 12 tracks are covers of songs written and originally performed by men, reinterpreted by Amos from a female's point of view. Amos created female personae for each track (one song featured twins) and was photographed as each, with makeup done by Kevyn Aucoin.
Still, this is a Tori Amos record. If she wants to do relatively commercial and tender tunes, she will (like on 2002's Scarlet's Walk). But if she wants to go into concept-albums and records few of the most haunting tracks ever, she gives you something like Strange Little Girls. The unobligaTori cover-up: Tori Amos – Strange Little Girls. There generally tends to be the reek of desperation around most cover albums – you get the scratchy feeling that the artist has hit a dead slump in their creative flow, is constrained (by whatever peripheral reason) to release something, and takes therefore the quickest and simplest route to get rid of the nuisance of actually living up to the expectations of their job.
So, six albums into her career, and several years since she captured headlines, she released Strange Little Girls, a collection of covers intended to strike a dagger into the heart of how males view females in pop songs.
Strange Little Girls" is not a pretty album, but that's the point: the ugliness of male-female relations, which she exposes bit by bit with each cover, is a fact that is-in both pop music and pop culture-all too often ignored.

Strange Little Girls. Strange Little Girls. STRANGE LITTLE GIRLS, the new studio album from Tori Amos, is an assemblage of songs written by men, but performed by Tori from the perspectives of a diverse cast of female characters. Songs composed by such artists as Neil Young, the Stranglers, Eminem, Depeche Mode, Slayer, Lou Reed, Lennon/McCartney, and others are taken apart and put back together darkly, gently, and in an uncompromising fashion.
Strange Little Girl" by the Stranglers was released in the UK in 1982 as their last single while signed to Liberty Records (part of EMI). By the time of release, the band had already decided to leave the label for Epic Records, and this last single was part of the severance deal, along with the compilation album, The Collection 1977-1982.
