Augustus Pablo, Kingston, Jamaica. Maybe it’s because the riff comes near the end of an album imbued with the angst of everyday life in Manley’s Jamaica ustus Pablo’s immortal album, Shakespeare whistles through the streets with Pablo hollering back on his melodica, each step floating through the mixing board and echo effects of ace producer King Tubby. The hymnal riff lathers the soul with divine grace, while the beats lock the mind into dub’s trademark tick-tocks. Augustus Pablo - East Of The River Nile (Rockers) 47. Jacob Miller – False Rasta. Included here are timeless classics like Jacob Miller’s False Rasta aka Too Much Commercialization Of Rasta. Miller was in his early teens when he recorded this song for Pablo. He went on to be one of Jamaica’s greatest, most popular vocalists. With this album Mundell provided the near perfect overt distillation of the spirit with songs like Why Do Black Man Fuss And Fight, Day Of Judgement and Book Of Life. The title track Africa Must Be Free (By The Year 1983) is a moving testimony to the spirit of the times. Park Lane Special is the dub to that song.

Horace Swaby (21 June 1954 – 18 May 1999), known as Augustus Pablo, was a Jamaican roots reggae and dub record producer, melodica player and keyboardist, active from the 1970s onwards. He popularised the use of the melodica (an instrument at that time primarily used in Jamaica to teach music to schoolchildren) in reggae music. His album King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown (1976) is often regarded as one of the most important examples of dub. Biography. He was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, and learned to play the organ at the Kingston College School.
The debut album This Is Augustus Pablo was framed around ‘Java’ too, with nary a weak track in earshot. Not much has emerged about the identity of Sister Frica. In any case, this one-away track is a total killer, an ethereal slice of Rasta livity based on an old gospel tune, but here with Frica’s lilting voice placed atop a particularly thick slice of heavily phased Black Ark rhythm, peppered by plenty of Africa-inspired percussion.
