Valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer and tenor-great Stan Getz (who had played together regularly a decade prior) had a reunion for this date, performing five standards and three Brookmeyer originals. The young rhythm section (pianist Herbie Hancock, vibraphonist Gary Burton, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Elvin Jones) uplifts what would have been a fairly conventional (although high quality) bop date.

Tracks 9-11 were previously unissued before this 2005 CD reissue.

Gary Burton does not play on tracks 9 to 11, as they were recorded during the session prior to his arrival, as he explains in his 2005 liner notes. He is also not present on track 4, though it is listed from the May 27th session when he was present and he indicates it was recorded during the May 26th session.
