More than simply adding 'support', the sound system and . operator GARY CLAIL provide a non-stop assault of unreleased tracks, re-mixes and out-takes of studio recordings made by the TACKHEAD crew. These tracks are twisted and dubbed 'live' through the . mixing desk while maybe three rhythms, sound effects and chants play simultaneously.

Tackhead Tape Time is the debut album of Tackhead, released in 1987 through Nettwerk. Tackhead Tape Time is a "robotic" electro-funk album, containing abrasive beats, funky guitar, and instances of tape delay, which hint at the album's dub and reggae roots. All tracks written by Tackhead.

They released one LP Tackhead Tape Time in 1987 as "Gary Clail's Tackhead Sound System" and some of the most distinctive and well-known Tackhead tracks (some were released as 12-inch singles) date from this period particularly: "What's My Mission Now?", "Mind at the End of the Tether" and "Hard Left" During this period Leblanc also produced two solo LPs: the highly inventive Major.

With Tackhead Tape Time they take it to the studio, and the result is taut, tough, and funky. Clail isn't much of a singer (though he makes an admirable attempt on "Reality"), and the content of some of his pronouncements can be a bit eye-rolling, but he and Tackhead certainly seem to bring the best out in each other - the samples of Margaret Thatcher, military officers, and news reporters (as well as the occasional snippet.

Isolation (On-U Sound System Mix). 02. Who Pays The Piper (Perfecto Mix).

Gary Clail began his career in Bristol where he worked improvising raps on tapes released by On-U artists. He was taken in by the label to work with Tackhead and the On U Sound System in the late '80s, resulting in a series of 12" releases from 1985-87 before his first full-length split release for Nettwerk, Tackhead Tape Time by Gary Clail & Tackhead. In 1989, he had his true debut album in Gary Clail On-U Sound System, released by the On U Sound label. Gary Clail On-U Sound System - Human Nature. Gary Clail, On-U Sound System - Privatise The Air. Gary Clail, On-U Sound System - Two Thieves And A Liar. Gary Clail On-U Sound System - These Things Are Worth Fighting For. Gary Clail On-U Sound System - The Emotional Hooligan. Gary Clail On-U Sound System - Who Pays the Piper? Gary Clail - Another Hard Man. Download SoundHound.

Andy Fairley appars on track 4. - M.O.V.E. Although various websites remark that this voiceover sounds "suspiciously" like Andy Fairley, he is uncredited. On-U Sound's publicity material for "15 Years In An Open Boat", found at: http://www.obsolete.com/on-u/info/openboat.html refers to Andy Fairley's involvement with this album.
