MONK HIGGINS is a jazz related soundtracks jazz related rnb music artist. Monk Higgins is best known for the R&B hit instrumentals "Who Dun It" and "Gotta Be Funky. The prolific Higgins also wrote a slew of songs for others including Bobby Bland and one of the Chi-Lites' first singles, "Go Go Gorilla. A mainstay of the Chicago R&B/soul music scene, he was a ssion player at Chess Records during the '60s.
Monk Higgins' debut solo LP evokes fellow Chicago arranger extraordinaire Charles Stepney in its lush orchestral soul splendor. Bookended by Jimmy Webb covers ("By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and the title cut) and touching on influences from Ray Charles ("I Believe to My Soul") to the Association ("Cherish"), Monk Higgins in MacArthur Park is a bold, sweeping statement that captures the gritty edge of R&B and the syrupy sweetness of pop, often within the same song.
Milton Bland (October 3, 1930 – July 3, 1986) better known as Monk Higgins, was an American musician and saxophonist who was born in Menifee, Arkansas. Higgins biggest hits were the instrumental tracks "Who Dun It" (which reached on the US R&B chart in 1966), and "Gotta Be Funky" ( on the US R&B chart). His instrumental "Ceatrix Did It" (1967) was the sign-off song for soul DJ "Dr. Rock" on WMPP, East Chicago Heights, Illinois.
