Live Stiffs Live is a live album released in 1978 by Stiff Records Contents. 3 Critical reception.

Protest the lack of info! Every punk worth his or her safety pins should own this classic. It has a heartbreakingly lovely version of the young and angry Elvis Costello singing Burt Bacharach-more honest and also a little meaner than on his other more recent album. Lots of fun punk stuff: Ian Drury and The Blockheads doing Sex and Drugs and Rock & Roll, and the Austin Powers of Punk, Wreckless Eric with great big power pop songs.

The album has various names from Stiffs Live Stiffs, Stiffs Live and Live Stiffs The correct name of the original Stiff Records release on 17 February 1978 was Live Stiffs Live The album was later re-issued on Music for Pleasure MFP 50445 as simply Live Stiffs. The album was subsequently released by Demon Records on CD in 1994 Demon 621 and re-released in 1997 Edsel 621 & Diablo Records 851. Track listing.

The other sides of the Motörhead and Elvis Costello tracks had appeared on the previous compilation album, A Bunch of Stiff Records.

But perhaps Stiff’s greatest early coup was discovering 22-year-old Declan MacManus, a young Londoner who wrote songs while holding down various office jobs. Riviera signed him on the strength of a demo tape and gave him a new identity: Elvis Costello. His 1977 single Watching The Detectives became Stiff’s first Top 20 hit. Riviera quit Stiff in late 77 for Radar Records, taking with him both Lowe and Costello. Undaunted, Robinson pressed on. Ian Dury & The Blockheads repayed his faith in January 1979 by giving the label their first N. with Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick.

Live Stiffs Live is a live album released in 1978, containing performances by various Stiff Records artists from the first "Live Stiffs Tour", which ran from 3 October to 5 November 1977. It features tracks by Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Ian Dury & the Blockheads, Nick Lowe, Wreckless Eric and Larry Wallis. The album opens with tour MC (and later Clash road manager) Kosmo Vinyl calling audience members away from the bar and introducing the first act as "Nick Lowe's Led Zeppelin"
