Issued in September 1996, New Adventures In Hi-Fi debuted at N. on the US Billboard 200 and shot straight to N. in the UK. In addition, the LP spawned a trio of Top 30 hits in the UK – including an impressive N. placing for the record’s first single, ‘E-Bow The Letter’ – and eventually sold over five million copies worldwide.

Guitar chords with lyrics. How the west was won and where it got us, The Wake-up Bomb, New Test Leper, Undertow EE-Bow the Letter, Leave Departure, Bittersweet Me, Be Mine, Binky the Doormat, Zither, So Fast So Numb, Low Desert, Electrolite. How the west was won and where IT got us. Piano riff: -14-14-14-12- -12-12-12-12- -12-12-12-12

That’s because the best songs are the exceptions to the rule; the ones that take a more subtle approach in the way of sonics. The opening track; a sparse production entitled How The West Was Won; wouldn’t sound out of place in a jazz lounge. E-Bow The Letter, which reads more like a poem to me, flirts with an almost country twang. And the piano-laced Electrolite, which takes you on a trip up LA’s Mulholland Drive, is a thing of beauty

Remove the filler and this is a very good album, perhaps even the last great REM album. One of REM's strengths is their urge to push themselves creatively

You can more or less divide . s career into three chapters. There’s the five-album run beginning with 1983’s Murmur and ending with 1987’s Document, the near-unimpeachable stretch on . established their immediately identifiable, jangly college-rock sound. Then 1988’s Green came out on Warner Bros.

Reviews:

Just got a good deal on this and on my first ever listen on vinyl with this album I can totally agree with the previous comment on Electrolite. Some fuzziness comes through my speaker only on this song. Quite annoying.

Just curious , what "good deal" did you get !? On Discogs or your local shops .... Cheers , J

My copy seems a bit 'hot' in places, distorts particularly badly on Electrolite. Otherwise, decent pressing if a bit muddy but it kind of suits the record.
