I don't wanna holiday in the sun I wanna go to the new Belsen I wanna see some history 'Cause now I got a reasonable economy. Holidays In The Sun was the fourth single released by the Sex Pistols in October ‘77. This song came to life after a period of vacations in Berlin, where the band felt good because they were out of London and all it’s mess. John Lydon said: Being in London at the time made us feel like we were trapped in a prison camp environment. There was hatred and constant threat of violence. The best thing we could do was to go set up in a prison camp somewhere else. Berlin and its decadence was a good idea. The song came about from that.

After getting hit with a great deal of negative publicity back home in London, The Sex Pistols felt like they had been trapped in a prison camp environment, so they decamped to the Channel Island of Jersey. The opening riff bears a resemblance to The Jam's "In The City. Paul Weller of The Jam in the Uncut August 2007 issue confirmed he had a scrap with Sid Vicious in the Speakeasy Club over this song: "He started it and I finished it. I don't know if anyone can claim any victory. He just came up to me and he was going on about 'Holidays In The Sun' where they'd nicked the riff from 'In The City
