For Dylan, that day he toyed with To fall in love with you was most certainly not an off day. This is a beautiful song, and it is wonderful indeed that we have a copy of the recording. The lyrics are only partially formed but the chord sequence and the melody is there, and above everything else, Dylan clearly believes in where he is going. If it had ever been finished it would have been considered one of the masterpieces, of that I am certain

Dylan is an album compiled by Columbia Records consisting of outtakes by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on November 19, 1973. The tracks were assembled and issued by the label with no input from Dylan himself. The album followed the artist's departure from Columbia for Asylum Records, and the announcement of his first major tour since 1966

His first album, Bob Dylan, was released in 1962, and he followed it up with a host of albums now regarded as masterpieces, including Blonde on Blonde in 1966, and Blood on the Tracks in 1975. He is regarded as one of the most influential figures in contemporary popular culture, though his music has always proved divisive. Days after being awarded the literature prize, Bob Dylan has yet to get in touch with the Swedish Academy, or indicate whether he will attend the celebrations. Published: 17 Oct 2016. Nobel panel gives up knockin’ on Dylan’s door.

In the spring of 1970, anticipation for Bob Dylan‘s next album was through the roof. He hadn’t released a note of new music since Nashville Skyline 14 months earlier. Maybe a quarter of the way through, I recall the DJ saying, ‘Gee, I don’t know if I should keep playing this. I’ve been getting a lot of phone calls saying, in essence, ‘What is this shit?' The irrepressible reality of Bob Dylan is a compound of spontaneity, candor, slicing wit and an uncommonly perceptive eye and ear for the way many of us constrict our capacity for living while a few of us don't. Not yet twenty-two at the time of this albums release, Dylan is growing at a swift, experience-hungry rate. In these performances, there is already a marked change from his first album ("Bob Dylan," Columbia CL 1779/CS 8579), and there will surely be many further dimensions of Dylan to come. His experience with adjusting himself to new sights and sounds started early.

Bob Dylan has won the Nobel Prize for Literature for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition. The singer, poet, and novelist turned 75 earlier this year, while in 2011 - on his 70th birthday - The Independent listed 70 reasons Dylan is the most important figure in pop-culture history.

A few drawings reached the public gaze with album covers like Music from Big Pink (1968) and Self Portrait (1970). In 1974, Dylan spent two seminal months studying art with Ashcan School tutor Norman Raeben, who philosophised the importance of 'perceptual honesty' - painting life as it as seen, not imagined. Dylan says of this time: "He put my mind and my hand and my eye together, in a way that allowed me to do consciously what I unconsciously felt. Why did the Self-Portrait 2lp got voted by poll for Dylan& worst album at that time when it was the best impression on him? I guess they pulled it to pieces for it& conceptional work - not being a "Hit Album" and the featured country musicians which were outdated in 1970. Just another example how hard critics can fail. On Triplicate Bob Dylan honours the material that formed the building blocks of his own work. ★★★☆ When Dylan offered us, with 2015’s Shadows in the Night and 2016’s Fallen Angels, his take on the Great American Songbook, it was hard to see why the reluctant voice of his generation was giving us his take on prewar classics sung so much more elegantly by Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and countless others.
