The oldest tracks in the Henry Burr Anthology, "The Holy City" and Lillian Russell's stage hit, "Come Down, Ma Evenin' Star," both recorded on wax cylinders for Columbia in 1903, and "Mighty Lak' a Rose," from circa 1908 for Zon-o-phone, demonstrate Burr's range, as do novelty items such as Irving Berlin's anti-war ditty "Stay Down Here Where. You Belong," recorded in 1915 for Victor, with Burr intoning the song's tale of the Devil admonishing his son not to leave Hell for Earth because "those kings up there are bigger.

Emboldened by Campanari's endorsement, McClaskey ventured to New York in 1902, where he began lessons and sang with the Grace Methodist Episcopal Church choir.
