Crimson/Red is the tenth studio album by English pop band Prefab Sprout. It was released in the United Kingdom by Icebreaker Records and Kitchenware Records on 7 October 2013. The album title is a reference to artist Mark Rothko. In Mojo magazine, critic Danny Eccleston called Crimson/Red "the welcome return of Durham's song-craftsman supreme". The Observer's Phil Mongredien praised the album as "charming, articulate and urbane" (a lyric from "Devil Came a Calling").

Prefab Sprout – Crimson/Red. Paddy McAloon makes a heartfelt, hook-laden return. The beauty of a song is when you can combine universality with particularity, says Paddy McAloon, speaking to Uncut about his first album in four years. Lyrically the album is rich in universality with particularity. The singer with the shot voice in the ballad List Of Impossible Things could be McAloon himself, but is really humanity’s refusal to accept our own limitations. Devil Came A Calling sees McAloon revive the ersatz Americana of Faron Young and cast himself as Faust, alluding to the rock ‘n’ roll indulgence of his ‘80s glory days but actually exploring mankind’s constant fall to temptation.

Even though he had been suffering from hearing and sight impairments, Prefab Sprout man Paddy McAloon actually picked up the pace with the release of Crimson/Red, an album that follows Let's Change the World with Music by four years, halving the eight-year wait after 2001's The Gunman and Other Stories.

Paddy McAloon – currently the only member of Prefab Sprout – has paired the lyric with a blaring country harmonica/keyboard arrangement, essentially asserting that this old-stager isn't about to go gentle into any good night. The first album of previously unheard material to be released since Andromeda Heights in 1997, Crimson/Red is a corker in more ways than one. For several years, McAloon has had impaired hearing and vision, which makes the songs' near-symphonic complexity even more impressive

No note till now?Oha!This is a hell of a great comeback album from paddy mcAloon. It was a big surprise for me in 2013 hearing again to the guy who just liked to create the perfect pop song. I guess-regarding the vinyl quantity- they were not pressing so much- the vinyl version was sold out quickly these days. It' a heavy vinyl. Press quality is quite fine.Highlight is the brilliant " billy" incl. the lyrics among others. It's funny for me as a huge go-betweens fan: THIS could be also one. In somehow. A really great pop album.
