Scrappy, lager-fueled tunes about being young and bored in a bleak Northern England steel town. Even Yanks couldn’t resist these raging Brit-pop-punk gems, and it wasn’t long before the Sheffield quartet’s debut became the fastest-selling debut album by a band in UK chart history. Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not is the debut studio album by English rock band Arctic Monkeys, released on 23 January 2006 by Domino Recording Company. The album surpassed Elastica's self-titled album to become the fastest selling debut album in British music history, shifting over 360,000 copies in its first week, and remains the fastest selling debut album by a band. It has since gone quintuple platinum in the UK.
Before I press play: Kinda weird that Old Town Road is on the album twice. Also why is the remix first but the original last. Also I've seen some people complaining that all his songs are short, like that's inherently a bad thing. Small songs can be really good at getting a point across in one direct hit. I:E; Jack Stauber and Tierra Whack. Schlagenheim is the highly anticipated debut album by Black Midi, a math rock band hailing from Croydon, London (which I was actually born in btw). Their hype has mostly been generated through their live performances uploaded on to the internet, making them already gain somewhat of a cult following. Now, what I will say is that while I was still very much on the Black Midi hype train, I can't say I was extremely impressed by their previous singles, at least not as much as the hardcore fans,.
Should the band release album closer "A Certain Romance" as its next single, the hit/miss ratio will be greatly improved. A long sigh about living among chavs, "Romance" finds the Monkeys moving between bloody-knuckled and wistful as they paint a picture of boredom breeding violence, of being aware of the faults and faultlines in their environment but feeling too powerless or hemmed in by loyalty to raise a fuss. this is the perfect soundtrack to moving loveseats around a stock room. Fittingly then the NME awarded this album a 10/10.
Why Little Mikey, of all people? We can only guess, but urban legends require victims who are known yet anonymous - the ubiquitous friends of a friend - to lend them a touch of credible realism without allowing for the easy verification of their details.
I wouldn't say I really would consider myself one anymore because a lot of people that I meet who consider themselves to be backpackers, they almost have a little bit of an unusual perception of what they are, and they think somehow they're different from say tourists, and I meet people who say these things, like, I'm not a tourist . Jeff: So, are backpackers boys and girls, old people and young people, Indians and Canadians. Maybe they just want to see a little bit of the world before they know they're going to be rooted in one place because perhaps from their field of study they think that their future is going to be more or less planned out and they want to get a bit of travel in before they embark on their career. Jeff: So you have a wheely case, and you're not really a backpacker so is it OK if I call you a wheely-packer?
Their true ground zero though, is 2001, the year the Strokes stormed British consciousness with their debut, Is This It.
