Sir Raymond Douglas Davies, CBE (/ˈdeɪvɪz/ DAY-viz; born 21 June 1944) is an English singer, songwriter and musician. He was the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and main songwriter for the Kinks, which he led with his younger brother, Dave. He has also acted, directed and produced shows for theatre and television. He is often referred to as "the godfather of Britpop". After the dissolution of the Kinks in 1996, Davies embarked on a solo career.
The stellar tune "Rock 'N' Roll Cowboys" warns us metaphorically of "the final call at the last chance saloon" and thrice poses the probing and haunting question, "Do you live in a dream or do you live in reality?" There is no question that Ray has found ample inspiration in America, possibly no more so than on his next to last day when his neighbor in New Orleans, the since-deceased Alex Chilton (The Box Tops, Big Star, and a brilliant solo career) came over to say goodbye. Ray, in this album, incorporates, in a condensed form, every lyrical theme of his music with the Kinks, leavened and wisened with age, told with a potent succinctness.
Lyrics to "Oklahoma . the surrey with the fringe on top, Cos in her dreams she is far away, In Oklahoma . She walks to work but she's still in a daze, She's Rita Hayworth or Doris Day, And Errol Flynn's gonna take her away, To Oklahoma . All life we work but work is a bore, If life's. for livin' then what's livin' for.

It was the kind of album that parents would not want their kids listening to. 'Kinda Kinks' changes that up a bit by having some softer, more poppy type songs mixed in as well. Some good examples of this are "Don't Ever Change" and "Nothing in the World Can Stop Me from Worryin' 'Bout That Girl". Ray Davies said he felt that it was rushed and not as good as it could have been. Even so, this was still a very popular album for the band and the song "Tired of Waiting for You" became a huge hit for them. Fun Facts: "Dancing in the Street" was originally recorded by Martha and the Vandellas. Also, The Pretenders covered "I Go to Sleep" in 1981.

Do you give up the chase like an old retiree? Or do you stare in the face of new adversaries. Night falls the coyote calls underneath a full moon. Heeyah" is the final call at the Last Chance Saloon. Your time's passed, now everyone asked for your version of history. Do you live in a dream, or do you live in reality? Rock n' roll cowboys on the ol' wagon train. You had your time but it won't come again. You rode the prairie and ya' always stood proud.
