Propre grégorien de la messe de l'Assomption de la Bienheureuse Vierge Marie. Enregistré en la Collégiale Saint-Martin de Champeaux, Seine et Marne, France les 5, 6, 7, 8 et 9 septembre 1990. The extremly pure atmosphere of the Champeaux Collegiate Church is on certain days slightly disturbed by the wind. This explains the occasionally rising but perfectly natural background noise".

Austere Cerebral Monastic Serious Severe. This recording of Ensemble Organum in Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Notre-Dame - a pivotal piece, as it is the earliest complete polyphonic mass setting by a named Western composer of prominence - was destined to enter the field as one of the most controversial early music recordings ever. Marcel Pérès and his group decided to vocally ornament the music, a feature for which there is no indication in the surviving sources in the Mass itself, nor historic support in what few treatises we have from Machaut's century, the fourteenth.

Messe de Nostre Dame (Mass of Our Lady) is a polyphonic mass composed before 1365 by French poet and composer Guillaume de Machaut (c. 1300–1377). Widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of medieval music and of all religious music, it is historically notable as the earliest complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass attributable to a single composer (in contrast to earlier compilations such as the Tournai Mass).

Messe de Notre-Dame: I. Kyrie eleyson. By Guillaume de Machaut - Dominique Vellard & Ensemble Gilles Binchois. Premier Ton. Authentus Protus, Introït: Statuit ei Dominus. By Anonymous - Dominique Vellard & Ensemble Gilles Binchois. By Alfonso el Sabio - Ensemble Gilles Binchois & Dominique Vellard. Le vray remède d'amour: Virelai "Je vivroie liement". By Guillaume de Machaut - Brigitte Lesne, Pierre Hamon, Ensemble Gilles Binchois & Dominique Vellard. In the case of the Ensemble Gilles Binchois, the scholarly tie is to the Center for Medieval Music in Paris, France; most of the group's regular performers both teach and study there. In addition, the ensemble has profited from close collaboration with some of mainland Europe's leading musicologists: Marie-Noël Colette in Paris and Karen Smith and Wulf Arlt in Basel.
