Muti / The Philadelphia Orchestra - 1812 / Boléro / Les Préludes flac album

Heroic Intense Melodic Narrative Rousing. Riccardo Muti, Philadelphia Orchestra. Muti: 1812, Boléro, Les Préludes. In a contest to decide which is the best recording Riccardo Muti made with the Philadelphia Orchestra while he was the music director from 1980 through 1992, this 1982 release might take the prize. Then 41, Muti was at his first peak as a conductor, and his performances here are superbly controlled with lucid balances, a clear beat, tight attacks, clean releases, and a firm grasp of form.
Composed By – Franz Liszt. Orchestra – The Philadelphia Orchestra. Producer – John Mordler. The German liner notes are not signed. is like r241527 but with another cover.
1812 Op. 49. By Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Released: 31 Dec 1982. See All. Rachmaninov: Piano Concertos Nos. 2 & 3. 2014. Sergei Rachmaninov Plays Rachmaninov: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 4. 2011.
Les Preludes is also quite good. I find it more clearly articulated than Karajan's with the Berlin and ultimately more transporting. The 1812 Overture is impressive orchestrally, but I found myself wishing the cannons and bells at the end were louder. The bells in my Dorati recording actually drown out the orchestra, and that seems important to me. The bells signify the joy of victory - the salvation of the homeland. They should be loud and memorable.
