Fly from Here is the twentieth studio album by the English rock band Yes, released on 22 June 2011 by Frontiers Records. After a four-year hiatus, Yes resumed touring in 2009 with a line-up of bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, and newcomers singer Benoît David and keyboardist Oliver Wakeman. During breaks in touring between late 2010 and early 2011, the group began to prepare material for Fly from Here, their first studio album in ten years

Horn produced the original Fly From Here LP, which included songs he had written for an abandoned Buggles record. The 2011 album was the only Yes studio album to feature lead vocals by Benoit David, who took over for Jon Anderson in 2008 after the band's longtime singer had to bow out of a tour due to respiratory issues. David had previously sung in a Yes tribute band called Close to the Edge. He also appeared on In the Present – Live From Lyon. 2/27 UPDATE: Yes revealed plans to release Fly From Here - Return Trip to the general public after the convention. Blabbermouth has additional details on the project.

The album originated from a conversation between producer Trevor Horn and YES bassist Chris Squire, who re-discovered the song ‘Fly From Here’ from the ‘Drama’ sessions and realized that it had never been recorded in a studio. Chris and I were talking one evening about the song ‘Fly From Here’ that we never recorded, explained Horn. I said I was prepared to spend two weeks with YES recording that song. When I arrived in America to record it, I was taken prisoner by the band and only allowed my freedom again in return for producing the whole album. His design for the cover was a painting he started in 1970 that had remained uncompleted. Fly From Here – Return Flight’ features a re-imagined work by Roger Dean as it’s cover. Yes - Fly From Here - Overture (1:52) Yes - Fly From Here Pt. I - We Can Fly (5:04) Yes - Fly From Here Pt.

The song, "Fly From Here" is an epic done in several parts and was written in 1980 and never used by YES at that time. If you want to hear a rough live version of this song listen to, "The word is YES", (a three CD live set). The new polished version has Trevor Horn written all over it not only as the producer, but David Benoit's vocals have a distinct hint of a Trevor Horn influence. The songs on "Fly From Here" are beautiful. In fact, I believe this to be the most listenable Yes album in their catalog. Check out "Hour Of Need"!!!) And the icing on the cake is that Chris Squire's bass sound still kicks butt!
