Margaret Johnson was an American blues and early jazz vocalist and pianist. Johnson's primary era of recording activity as a vocalist was from 1923 to 1927. Prior to this, she had worked in vaudeville. She recorded with the harmonica player Bobby Leecan and guitarist Robert Cooksey, playing country blues; she also did several recordings with New Orleans jazz ensembles which included Sidney Bechet, Clarence Williams, Louis Armstrong, Bubber Miley, and Tom Morris. In 1924, she recorded "Absent Minded Blues", which was written by Tom Delaney, and another of his compositions, "Nobody Knows the Way I Feel This Mornin'". She was accompanied by Williams on these recordings. I Can't Be Satisfied: Early American Women Blues Singers, Volume 2 released: The Complete American Masters 1931–1953.

Country blues songs are some of the most melancholy – and memorable – songs ever written. Put simply, a country blues (or folk blues ) song typically involves a singer, an acoustic guitar, and a whole lot of feelings. Put less simply, country blues is kind of a catch-all genre that draws upon. Some of these top country blues songs are more along the lines of traditional blues, while others display influences that are open to interpretation. The artists included in this list of country blues songs don't just hail from the South, though certainly plenty of them were or are from spots like Texas and Mississippi. But chances are you'll recognize their names: famous country blues songs by Lightnin’ Hopkins, Bukka White, Blind Willie McTell, and Mississippi John Hurt all appear here.

These ten tracks feature as many female blues singers, but only six fit the genre. Angela Strehlt displays vocal prowess on "Two Bit Texas Town," which makes you feel like you're in a smoky bar downing boilermakers.
